START BIKE - NATIONAL MUSEUM OF WILDLIFE ART

Use the START Bike community bike share system, and experience one of Jackson Hole’s great treasures, the National Museum of Wildlife Art.

The pathways are open! Avoid the traffic, breathe in that fresh mountain air and experience the National Museum of Wildlife Art by bike. Download the BCycle app or visit our website www.startbikejh.com to find a START Bike station near you. Present your START Bike confirmation email at the Museum and receive $2.00 off the price of an adult or senior admission! Museum open daily 9am - 5pm.

Sitting approximately 2.5 miles north of Jackson Hole the museum is accessible from all 17 of our conveniently located START Bike stations. Just north from Home Ranch visitor center on N. Cache Creek Street you’ll gain access to one of Jackson Hole’s most beautiful stretches of pathway. Ride relaxed and removed from the busy streets as you soak in the views of trumpeter swans on Flat Creek, The National Elk Refuge, and the high peaks of the Gros Ventre range. Dock your bike at the START Bike station located near the tunnel along Highway 191. Once your bike is docked, walk through the tunnel and just slightly up the hill until you find the sculpture trail to your right. This trail, designed by award-winning landscape architect, Walter Hood, weaves its way through wildlife sculptures that play with light and changing seasons, offering an ever-changing view of art in the wild.

Once inside the museum, you’ll find artworks representing wild animals from around the world. Featuring work by prominent artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Andy Warhol, Robert Kuhn, John James Audubon, and Carl Rungius, the Museum’s unsurpassed permanent collection chronicles much of the history of wildlife in art, from 2500 B.C. to the present. Don’t forget to stop by the Museum shop where you’ll be able to find a special piece of Jackson Hole to take home with you.

Now that you’ve worked up an appetite and have a thirst to quench, worry not. The museum is also home to an exciting new restaurant Palate open every day from 11am - 3pm. Here you’ll be able to have an unparalleled dining experience with views of the National Elk Refuge through gorgeous picture windows or al fresco if you prefer on their lovely patio seating.

Feeling refreshed and inspired to do more? Extend your ride from the museum. Once back on your START Bike, if you’re looking for a challenge, take a left when exiting the tunnel and head north for the START Bike selfie challenge! Approximately 2 miles from the museum at the top of a moderately challenging hill, you’ll lay your eyes on one of Wyoming’s most amazing vistas, Grand Teton National Park. Snap a picture of you and your START Bike with the Grand Teton in the background! Tag your photo on Instagram with #STARTBike for a chance to win a season pass to the START Bike system!

You’ve had a big day and you’re probably ready to get back to town. Lucky for you, the return trip is downhill 😊! Once back in Jackson use your BCycle app to locate the START Bike station that’s most convenient for you. A START Bike day pass gives you unlimited 1 hour rides, so whenever you’re ready to head out to dinner we’ll be here.
